Responsibilities

The Waseca County Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and construction of 395 miles of road in Waseca County.

Maintenance

Maintenance responsibilities include items such as:

  • Bridge maintenance
  • Crack sealing
  • Culvert repair and replacement
  • Mowing of roadsides
  • Noxious weed control
  • Placing gravel and blading gravel roads
  • Pot hole patching
  • Seal coating
  • Signing
  • Snow and ice control in the winter

The maintenance crew consists of the maintenance supervisor, shop foreman, sign technician, and 10 highway maintenance workers responsible for operating the trucks and heavy equipment.

Engineering & Construction

Engineering and construction responsibilities include items such as:

  • Construction supervision for both road and bridge construction
  • Contract administration
  • Plan preparation
  • Right of way acquisition
  • Scheduling and programming of the five-year construction plan
  • Surveying

The Public Works Department is also responsible for the inspection of 96 county and township bridges. The Highway crew consists of the county engineer, engineering supervisor and two engineering technicians.
