Benefits
Waseca County provides a comprehensive, balanced, and competitive benefits package as part of your total compensation. The County's benefits programs address both the immediate needs that you and your family may have such as medical coverage and your long-term needs such as retirement savings.
The following outline of County-offered benefits serves as an overview and does not provide all provisions, limitations, and exclusions. If there is a contradiction between this and the official plan documents, the plan documents will prevail. The information provided is a summary and does not list all benefits offered to employees. Core Benefits
Core benefits assure that you and/or your loved ones are protected financially. These benefits are paid partially or in full through employer contributions.
Personal and Family Medical Coverage
Waseca County offers two plan options for health insurance coverage through Medica. Coverage is effective 1st of the month following 30 day waiting period. Depending on the plan, it could include an employer funded Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Voluntary Employee Benefit Association Accounts (VEBA) or Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRA).

Basic Life Insurance
The County will provide life and accidental death, dismemberment and loss of sight insurance in the amount of $25,000 for regular full-time and part-time employees (.50 FTE or greater). Upon his or her attainment of age 65, amount of insurance shall be reduced to $16,250. Upon his or her attainment of age 70, amount of insurance shall be further reduced to $2,000. No further reductions shall occur after a Certificate Holder’s 70th birthday.

Public Employers Retirement Association (PERA)

Optional Benefits
Employees may want to supplement their CORE coverage with additional Insurance options. If you choose, you may elect to make additional employee contributions towards benefits that may enable you to enjoy an extra measure of security and protection.

Paid Time Off
PTO provides all participating County employees with adequate and necessary paid time off work while ensuring necessary departmental coverage by requiring adequate advance notice so that necessary planning can occur. PTO can be used for any purpose, subject only to non-intrusive request/approval procedures consistent with policy and labor contracts.
Eligibility
All full-time and part-time regular employees whose budgeted FTE is 0.50 or greater shall be eligible for, and accrue PTO. Regular part-time employees, who’s budgeted FTE is 0.50 or greater, shall accrue pro-rated PTO benefits in accordance with the schedule based on their budgeted FTE.
Accrual Schedule
- Less than 5 years of Services: 8.0 hours per pay period (24 Pay Periods) - Approximate Annual Accrual Rate 24 days/192 hours
- 5 years but less than 10 years: 9.0 hours per pay period (24 Pay Periods) - Approximate Annual Accrual Rate 27 days/216 hours
- 10 years but less than 15 years: 10.0 hours per pay period (24 Pay Periods) - Approximate Annual Accrual Rate 30 days/240 hours
- 15 years but less than 20 years: 11.0 hours per pay period (24 Pay Periods) - Approximate Annual Accrual Rate 33 days/264 hours
- 20 years or more:12.0 hours per pay period (24 Pay Periods) - Approximate Annual Accrual Rate 36 days/288 hours
Paid Holidays
Waseca County recognizes the importance of spending time with their families during national holidays and therefore recognizes national holidays throughout the year. Regular part-time employees, who’s budgeted FTE is 0.50 or greater, is eligible for holiday pay in accordance with the schedule based on their budgeted FTE.
